Crazyass Deer

by dave on Jan.19, 2009, under Photography

So, after the entire day of shooting and crawling around in the snow, I take all my gear off, peel off all the layers and I’m down to my base layer. Soaking in sweat, and just crap piled all over in my car. Ate a totally frozen taco. so good. Getting dark so I pack it in and start heading home. Decided to stop at the bathroom. When I opened my door, this crazy ass deer buzzes me. I literally dove back into my car and came out shooting. Luckily it was set to something near useable. ISO was at 800, f/2.8, and I rolled it up to about 1/500 to get this shot. I wish the ISO had been lower, but it doesn’t change too quickly. Deer had heard my shutter, stopped running, turned around, and walked back up to me. I know it’s a park deer…but this park is heavily hunted. Strange.  Oh yea… Also had to spend 10 minutes looking for my keys after she left.  Seems I just dropped everything when I dove back in for my camera :) ok. enough jabber.

Awakening

by dave on Jan.19, 2009, under Photography

I went out hiking today. Finally figured out a good way to sling a tripod, carry on an R-strap, and take a backpack with a few lenses in it. I haven’t had a ‘good day’ shooting in a long time. I dont know if any of the shots from today are really ‘amazing’, or even ‘good’. However, I enjoyed being out and taking shots. It felt good like it hasn’t in a long time. My focus was totally off and I was shooting all over the place, but you need that sometimes I think.

More Damned Monkeys

by dave on Jan.18, 2009, under Photography

I can say it.  These guys are  cute.   The netting is semi-annoying, but  easy enough to shoot past as long as they don’t get too close to it.    I both love and hate shooting  here. It can have good results, but also alot of half jumping bodies come back.

Brick

by dave on Jan.11, 2009, under Photography

This is the brick that some crackhead traded to me for my GPS. It’s a nice brick, and I probably would have traded him for it anyways…but he was so caring, he decided to increase the air flow throughout my car. It’s good to know people out there still care enough to share.

Bricks

From a shoot with a friend a couple years back. Was a lot of fun to do. I like working with people.   I’ve had this in my archives, and never edited or used it before.  Tonight was the first time it caught my eye, and I really like it.  Needs a little more cleaning up,  but it should settle out nicely.

Rochester

by dave on Jan.04, 2009, under Photography

Spent a couple days looking at maps and satellite photos  of roch looking for a good angle.  Not sure I’m totally satisified with this.  I think this is one of the better spots to shoot the city from, but we’ll see what else I can find.  This was taken from the east end of the Ford Street bridge.

Winter Classic

Was a year ago today. A publicity stunt with mixed results, but why not play a hockey game in a football stadium? This was taken at the first event, and it showed. The ice was problematic, and the snow did not help any. However it was one of the most enjoyable hockey games I’d been to. A full day tailgate started things off right. The crowd was a pretty even split of fans, though this mixture only added to the massive party atmosphere in the parking lots. Most sabres/penguins fans are also veterans of many football games, so they know how to do this right. BBQ pits, grills, drum fires, and more burnt meat and beer than most small cities consume in a week. Being at the Ralph, yet seeing all the sabres jerseys instead of bills was surreal.  The NHL was concerned about being able to sell enough tickets to the game.  Available seats sold out in under 45 minutes, and people were fighting to get the lower seats, under the line where you could even see  over the boards.  (if i recall, to get those you needed to have a child get the tickets per group of 5 adults or something like that.)

This was also my first day out with the EF-S 10-22mm.  I swore I’d never buy EF-S,  but I am very glad to have this lens.   High quality, and very fun to shoot with.
